Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since August 1995. We moved into our current location May of 2008. Prior to then, we were located in Florissant, Missouri.
What is your primary product or service?
Repairs For Musicians, By Musicians. We primarily perform service and repairs (both in and out of manufacturer warranty) to solid state and digital electronic and stringed musical instruments, with a specialty in vacuum tube amplifiers.
Additionally, we specialize in High End and Vintage Audio equipment both tube and solid state, including large format analog tape machines and mixing consoldes for home and studio use.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Our owner, Carlos Bedoya, began playing guitar at age 14. His father was also a degreed Electrical Engineer. Carlos spent a lot of time in his father's basement shop tinkering and learning electronics related to musical instruments at a young age. He also studied Music in college along with electronics. Carlos feels a great internal desire and passion for music and electronics, and loves to help people solve problems.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
All employees are either active musicians or music nuts. Our owner has been playing in the local 3 piece cover band Ben Wah Bob for about 14 years.
Carlos holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and Assoicate degrees in Electronics Technology and Musical Instrument Performance. His work history includes a position as Electronic Tech for McMurray Music (The largest Music Store in the Mid-west at that time) and as a Design Engineer for Ampeg & Crate Amplifiers. He was part of the LOUD Technologies take over and lost his position there when they dissolved the R&D department of SLM Electronics. While there he desgned the V-Series V3112, V30H, V212T, (also sold at Guitar Center under the Palomino Names of V32, V32H, V212) and Ampeg models BA500, SVT6PRO (this unit won the Musikmese Award, Grammy Equivalent), SVT1000, and B200R.
Three of our technicians were R&D technicians for Ampeg, so we have a wealth of knowledge for both Ampeg products and audio in general. Our Senior Technician has over 20 years in analog audio and is a high end and vintage audio guru.
When SLM Electronics desolved, Carlos was able to acquire most of the equipment Ampeg used to do proto type building. This gives us the ability to do custom work for customers who cannot find a viable solution from products mass produced.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
